CISV chapters are organized with an adult executive committee and a Junior Branch. The Junior Branch is made up of the active Chapter participants from age 11 to 25. Junior Branch promotes CISV activities within the local Chapter in order to further the goals of CISV within the community and provide fun and educational activities for the Junior Branch members. Junior Branch also participates in CISV National and International JB initiatives.
Junior Branch provides young CISV’ers with the opportunity to develop organization and leadership skills, reach out to their local community and have fun with other Junior Branch members who believe that continuing to promote the message of Peace through Understanding and Friendship is a worthwhile project. Junior Branch also provides continuity for those who have travelled to a CISV International Program event and also provides the opportunity for those who have not travelled to continue to work with a great group of committed youth in pursuing the goals of CISV.
Junior Branch also aims to prepare JB members for leadership positions within CISV. The first such postion a JB member is eligible for at the age of 16-18 is as a Junior Counsellor on a Village Program. Often the position of JC is not attached to a delegation, in which case the adventure to the Village host country is done “solo”. Once there, a Junior Counsellor will form a close team with 5 other JC’s from other countries. The aim of a JC is to provide an intermediate age link between the child delegates and the staff and leaders. While it is a more relaxed responsibility to leadership, with the main emphasis on motivating and initiating activities with children, the JC is always involved in planning activities, supervision and other specific responsibilities.
